The First Thanksgiving at Plymouth - 1620 Phase de découverte en deux temps : - Repérages visuels à partir d’un tableau (méthodologie de la description de l’image + formulation d’une hypothèse) - Compréhension écrite de courts textes explicatifs des principaux éléments. a) Picture dictation Un élève qui n’a pas vu le document va au tableau. Il doit chercher à reproduire l’image à partir des descriptions du reste de la classe. "The First Thanksgiving at Plymouth" By Jennie A. Brownscombe. (1914) b) Sliding texts La classe est divisée en groupe de 4 élèves. Un élève du groupe reçoit le texte A, un autre le texte B, etc… Ils ont 5 minutes pour lire le texte et rédiger une question sur une information apportée par le document. Après 5 minutes chacun fait passer son texte à son voisin et recommence le travail de lecture et de rédaction d’une question. Au moment de la mise en commun tous les élèves de la classe n’ont plus que les questions sous les yeux qu’ils posent à toute la classe. It is an important symbol in American history. - In the United States the word "Pilgrims Fathers" refers to the English settlers of New England, who sailed on the Mayflower (name of the ship) to New England, where they founded Plymouth Colony in SE Massachusetts (1620) - Native Americans (American Indians) are people from any of the many groups who were already living in North America before Europeans arrived. They comprise a large number of distinct tribes, states, and ethnic groups c) Let’s Recap! Ils émettent des hypothèses. BBC News article - 2006 Wednesday, 4 October 2006 US border fence signed into law US President George W Bush has signed a controversial bill into law that will pay for a 700- mile fence (1,125km) fence along the border with Mexico. The barrier, equipped with hi-tech surveillance equipment, will be built in areas where many illegal immigrants cross over into the United States. Mr Bush has also suggested a temporary guest worker programme to allow immigrants to work legally in the US. […] Under the new law, around $1.2bn will be spent over the coming year on the border, which will be built on remote and inhospitable border areas in the south west of the country. […] There are an estimated 12 million illegal immigrants living in the US. An estimated 1.2 million illegal immigrants were arrested last year trying to cross into the US along the border states of Texas, New Mexico, Arizona and California.
