A wholistic approach to Your child’s learning while away from school Grade one French immersion Hello parents! This document has been made to help facilitate your child’s learning and routines from home. The information that is presented should not be considered prescriptive but rather as a launching point to help build a program that works best for your family as we begin our learning away from school. In this presentation you will information about our website, a guide to our weekly lessons and an optional schedule approach if you are interested. As always, we welcome and encourage parent feedback on scheduling conflicts or concerns. Braun et Mme Westwood Routines and Learning away from school As referenced in our school’s wholistic learning approach; we feel that having a balanced day is an important part of your child’s success in learning. Literacy and Numeracy Physical Activity Mental Wellness Nutrition Creativity Every week we will be releasing 5 literacy and numeracy blocks. You can do one literacy and one numeracy block a day or chunk and organize in a way that best suits your family! Our hope is that you are able to use our plans as building blocks to create routines that work for your family. More opportunities for Science, Social, Art and Wellness will also be provided under our Enrichment Tab. Our school website will provide exciting opportunities to explore new mental and physical exercises with your family. Some activities may include practicing quiet time, writing letters, emails or texts to favourite people or participating in spring walks. Be good to your body and fuel it with food that will support your mental and physical health. Refer to https://food- guide.canada.ca/en/ for more information. Play, sing, draw and have fun. Arts play an important role in mental well being. It fosters problem solving skills, creativity, perseverance, risk taking, discipline and so much more. So get messy and try new things! Routines and Learning away from school Literacy Block Numeracy Block Below is an example of a daily schedule, including all of the holistic learning approaches outlined on our school website. This schedule is only a guideline! Please adjust and change for what works best for your family! Wake Up Eat Breakfast, Make your bed, get dressed, brush your teeth Outdoor Time Family walk or outdoor play Literacy Block Complete the Literacy colour of the day on our Weekly lessons Wellness Time Complete an item from our Wellness BINGO Creative Time Creative play, drawing, crafts, cooking, Logs, watching Mme Thorlaken’s music lesson Lunch Family lunch, help with clean-up Chore time Clean rooms, put away toys, pet care Free Choice Time Play time, free electronic time Numeracy Block Complete the Numeracy colour of the day on our Weekly lessons Outdoor/Active Time Family walk or outdoor play; complete an activity from our Wellness BINGO Dinner Time Family Dinner, help with clean-up Quiet Time Reading, puzzles, yoga, family time Bedtime Bath/shower, Put on PJ’s, brush teeth, clothes in laundry Example of Literacy and Numeracy Blocks: Weekly Lessons We have organized the lessons into 5 sections. We will refer to the days as colours rather than specific days, as they are able to be chunked, or completed on different days Each lesson is designed to take 30 minutes to complete Extra practice refers to any PREFFERED practice you would like your child to complete. There will be pages referenced from workbooks that have been sent home, as well as other online practice or home-learning activities. There will be two types of hyperlinks. One will be to videos: either lessons from us or learning videos from other sources.
