RED DWARF MINIATURES http://www.captainscarlet.com/ 6 THE GALLIFREYAN GAZETTE DOCTOR WHO NOVELS Review by Kenneth Parker THE CABINET OF LIGHT by Daniel O’ Mahoney The theme of the Doctor participating in the affairs of Earth and the results thereof has been touched upon many times in the past, whether on screen or in novels. The discovery by an outside character that the Doctor has existed throughout history is a highly interesting idea and it is this plot device that is used in The Cabinet of Light. In this mystery, we have the narrative point of view of a private detective who is put to the unwilling task of searching for this “Doctor” who seems to have been involved in events occurring centuries ago. Of course he knows that this is impossible but never-the-less, there seems to be some truth to the myth of this Doctor. The players in this story also include a strange woman with no memory found wandering the streets of London (a victim of recent bombings perhaps?), an unfriendly magician, a mysterious woman dressed in black and a large body guard who seems impervious to bullets. Our detective narrator discovers that trust is not something to be taken lightly. His investigations into all of these odd characters lead to a cabinet of light and, ultimately, to unraveling the story of the Doctor. It is at that point when things get worse for our detective hero. Knights S Knights S Knights S Knights S Knights Scenes cenes cenes cenes cenes Another year and look at what sci-fi and fantasy fans have awaiting us in the cinemas and on television not to moention in books and beyond. Batman, Star Wars, Doctor Who, Firefly, The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, The Fantastic Four, Harry Potter, Captain Scarlet, The War of the Worlds, Sin City, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, A Sound of Thunder, Robots, Aeon Flux, The Chronicles of Narnia, King Kong and so many more are what we are looking forward to. The highlight of this is of course, Doctor Who. As you are reading this the Organizational meeting will be happening or has occured and while there are no major announcements planned, there will be some extra attention put into the newsletter over the next few months. I have come up with a plan to increase article content and variety to enhance the publication to a level that the editor hopes to achieve. There are also some potential projects and other work that may be happening over the course of the year. Currently, we are looking for submissions in the form of articles, reviews, puzzles, humor, games and opinion. Subjects can range from Doctor Who (Especially Audio Adventures and other areas not covered by our existing writers), Star Trek, Smallville, comics, gaming and any Sci-Fi or Fantasy related areas. These submissions can be for the web site or newsletter. THE GALLIFREYAN GAZETTE 7 The guest character perspective idea works very well and gives us an insight on how the Doctor’s involvement, whether by accident or on purpose, can affect people’s lives. uploads/Geographie/ the-knights-gallifreyan-gazzette-208-january-2005-vol-18-04.pdf
