AI IMPLEMENTING AND MANAGING SMART ENERGY NETWORKS IN CANADA WHAT CAN WE LEARN FROM FOREIGN EXPERIENCE Context and motivation Catalyzed by new technologies and market transformation that range from shale extraction to the widespread of green energy resources the North American energy industry is facing a new enlargement phase In order to harness long-term bene ?ts from this expansion studies suggest that the required infrastructure investments should be directed to the deployment of Smart Energy Networks SEN Analogous to electric ? smart grid ? systems the SEN concept emphasizes the provision of energy by systems that use multiple fuels and advanced information technologies in an integrated manner Such systems are likely to maximize energy e ?ciency and reliability while generating considerable cost reductions to suppliers and end-users in addition to a wide array of economic and environmental bene ?ts Although Canada is in a unique position ?? due to its broad portfolio of energy resources remarkable research centers and world-leading energy technology industries ?? to put SEN in practice the deployment of such systems still requires enhanced appreciation of its viability by stakeholders According to the Waterloo Institute for Sustainable Energy recommendations further indepth research of foreign cases is needed to outline which implementation framework should better suits the Canadian technical and socioeconomic context Research Objectives The implementation of SEN requires a new business model of coordination and collaboration among diverse energy suppliers storage intermediates and end-users The general objective of this study is to investigate the managerial success and failures of speci ?c foreign experiments of SEN implementation in order to highlight enablers and barriers for the Canadian case in the following years We wish to ful ?ll a need in the literature by answering the question ?? What is the ideal business model of SEN implementation for Canada ?
