But the problem is bigger than every day run-of-the-mill tiredness. More and more people are being diagnosed with chronic conditions that include extreme fatigue and brain fog. These are conditions, such as chronic fatigue, fibromyalgia, ad- renal fatigue, depression, anxiety, hashimoto’s and other thyroid conditions. On top of these statistics, more and more Americans are also seeking out sleep aids to help them be able to fall asleep and stay asleep. What can be causing all of these symptoms to manifest on such a large scale? One key factor is stress. When our culture was to work outside in the fields, it may have had some physical stressors and the occasional weather-related problems that may have caused stress, but now that our jobs consist of sitting behind computers, with hundreds of different demands rushing at us constantly. We are in a continual state of fight or flight, always trying to jump from one thing to the next and it’s destroying our body’s ability to function properly. This state of living with elevated cortisol levels on a regular basis is causing chronic inflammation, which is leading to chronic diseases. And on top of the demands of highly stressful jobs, new research is showing that traumatic events in our childhood and throughout our lives are affecting us in ways that we have been unaware of. In fact, the inci- dence of childhood trauma is directly correlated to the incidence of chronic or fatal illness. All of these statistics may seem daunting, but the wonderful thing that we’ve found as we’ve researched for this docuseries, is that all of these issues are reversible. There are solutions and there is hope. We’ve inter- viewed countless people who have had a complete transformation in their lives when it comes to chronic illness, stress, fatigue, brain fog, and mental illness. And all these changes are possible with simple things you can start implementing today. Watch this episode to find out more. 3 | WOMEN’S HEALTH SECRETS EPISODE GUIDE More and more women are being diagnosed with hormone-related illness, such as endometriosis, PCOS, fibroids, and thyroid issues. Polycystic ovarian syndrome, or PCOS, is a condition that affects a woman’s men- strual cycle, fertility, hormones, insulin production, circulatory system, and appearance. Women have both male and female hormones, but women who have PCOS have higher levels of male hormones and experience irregular or absent menstrual cycles and small, fluid filled cysts on their ovaries. It is estimated that 5% to 10% of women who are of childbearing age have PCOS and at least 30% of women have some symptoms of PCOS. According to the American Thyroid Association, one in eight women will develop a thyroid disorder during her lifetime, and women are five to eight times more likely than men to have thyroid problems. Unfortunately, the symptoms of thyroid disease mirror the symptoms of a lot of other issues and can go undiagnosed for a long period of time. Often we feel that these conditions are completely outside of our control, however, many doctors have been baffled when their patients come back having completely reversed these conditions. The fibroid, the cysts, the hormone imbalance are all gone. Find out more about the incredible discoveries in health that are making this possible. 4 | WOMEN’S HEALTH SECRETS EPISODE GUIDE Breast cancer is a terrifying thought for most women. Not surprisingly, the U.S. weight loss industry hit a new peak in 2018, growing 4% to $72 billion. Even though more than 90% of dieters regain their lost weight, Americans are dieting at the highest rate in history. 57 percent of U.S. women are now dieting according to a national survey Girls who diet frequently are 12 times as likely to binge as girls who don’t diet Over one-half of teenage girls and nearly one-third of teenage boys use unhealthy weight control behav- iors (skipping meals, fasting, smoking cigarettes, vomiting, and taking laxatives). The Diet Industry sets us up to fail, knowing that once we regain the lost weight we will once again spend hundreds, if not thousands, of dollars embarking on yet another yo-yo diet. And as usual, Big Pharma makes a big profit: prescription obesity drugs is a $655 million per year market. An estimated 239,000 bariatric surgeries were performed in the U.S. in 2018, constituting a $5.98 billion mar- ket. Stop the vicious cycle of losing weight, gaining it back, and beating yourself up.
