January will see San Francisco alt-houser Ital play one show in Auckland at Whammy Bar. Following the full marks received from the recent TV Colours, Danger Beach, Assassins 88 shows put on by the RQ collective as well as the upcoming Sun Araw gigs, you’d be wise to take an interest in what shows they’re putting on. Roll on Rollins Before he was the buffest interviewer in the world, Henry Rollins actually used to make music in a little band called Black Flag. While he’s not as much of a musician nowadays, the industrial star still travels around the world speaking his mind and popping some serious veins. The stage sensation will be performing four shows around the country in April, hitting Hamilton, Christchurch, Wellington and Auckland. Tickets are on sale now through Ticketek and Ticketmaster. Dresden Dolls Add Show The Dresden Dolls have added one more gig to their New Zealand tour next year. As well as the Auckland and Wellington dates scheduled for late January, one Christchurch gig has been added for Wednesday 25 January at the Aurora Centre. Earlier this year the Dollies vocalist and pianist Amanda Palmer had to cancel her solo show following the Christchurch earthquakes, but those who still have their tickets can use that pass to get into the Aurora Centre gig. Can you describe this Ruckus? After faring pretty darn well overseas, hip hop/rock four-piece Rapture Ruckus have announced they’ll be playing shows in Auckland and Wellington next year. Joining them will be American Grammy-nominated metallers P.O.D. for the ALIVE 2012 events. The bands will play at Wellington’s Town Hall on Tuesday 10 April and Auckland’s Logan Campbell Centre on Wednesday 11 April. Trailer Trash Is Neat Everyone’s favourite hick trash will be heading our way next year. Ricky, Julian and Bubbles from the nonstop hilariously outrageous Trailer Park Boys will perform two live shows in March. The Drunk, High and Unemployed Tour will undoubtedly be an absolute riot as the boys perform in New Zealand for the first time. Auckland’s Town Hall and Wellington’s Opera House will host the performances. Tickets go on sale this Monday. Jazzing Off Grammy award winner Patti Austin has been added to the 50th National Jazz Festival happening over Easter weekend next year in Tauranga. The jazz-stress joins the likes of rhythm and blues legends Earth, Wind & Fire and Keb Mo, with more acts to be announced. This staple festival keeps running for a reason. Tickets for the five-day festivities are available now through Ticketek. Specially Brewed It’s been a while since it’s been the sound of the moment, but for all those ska-heads that just can’t let go, some good news is in store for you. Bad Manners have been announced to play one show at Auckland’s Kings Arms on Saturday 07 January. The UK band found their share of fans back in the 1980s, but are perhaps best known for mooning the Pope. It’s a long story. Bigs & smalls Three-piece experimentalists Aa (pronounced ‘big A little a’) have announced three shows in mid- February. The Brooklynites are percussion heavy instrumentalists that sound a little bit like a marching band marching on top of another marching band, resulting in a marching band battle in a Nintendo world. Aa will play at Space Monster in Wanganui, Mighty Mighty in the capital and Auckland’s Whammy Bar.
