Stay-tuned! • Irrespective of your position, employees are expected to make (business) decisions; at functional/operational levels at the beginning. • Having appropriate info is vital to make decisions • Read papers, journals, business magazines, have your favorite business program • Stay tuned will help you to get ahead! Be a resource to your organization! • Networking. Be the link in industry associations. 4.Continue to learn.. • A source of power • A must in a fast evolving technology/industry • Make yourself compatible with the increasing demands of the firm as it grows 5. Have a balance • Work and life balance • Your stakeholders • Review periodically: not so early and not so late. • Ask for yourself? Why am I working? For whom? What? 6. Do self evaluations • Do a SWOT to see where you stand? • What strengths/opportunities are there? • How to address weaknesses? • What threats are there? – Low industry growth – Rapid evolution of technology – Substitutes 7. Become a Specialist • Preferably in a niche area whilst being an all rounder • Try to be world class. Falling short will still make you outstanding. • Becoming a most sought after person by everybody in the firm and industry – for one particular area – irrespective of your current role. 8. Manage Relationships • Workplace/career relationships • Vertical and Horizontal • Managing upwards! The challenge • Industry relations • Quit as a friend! 9. Share • Share your knowledge • It gives you invaluable acceptance • You need to stay tuned and continue to learn to do this. 10. The role you play and not the designation • Review the role you play • Are you fully utilized? • Are your core competencies used? • Are you rewarded? Wish you every success!
