Examinee Guide A guide for preparing for and completing the Implementing SQF Systems examination SQFI a Division of FMI 2/3/2014 Page 1 About the Examination Goal The goal of the Implementing SQF Systems examination is to assess the knowledge of the SQF Code, 7th edition of an SQF professional (practitioner, trainer or consultant). Audience The primary audience for the Implementing SQF Systems examination is those desiring to demonstrate knowledge required of an SQF practitioner; secondary audiences are those desiring to become an SQF consultant or trainer. The audience of the Implementing SQF Systems examination is further defined as: A food safety professional with knowledge of food or food product farming, production, processing or manufacturing and HACCP who is being evaluated on their knowledge of the SQF Code, 7th edition. Terms used in this document 1. Item – often called a question 2. Stem – the question or statement posed that sets up the question or problem to be answered 3. Distractor – the selections offered to the test taker in the item; the incorrect selections 4. Key – the correct distractor; often called the answer 5. Examinee – the individual taking the examination 6. Exam, examination, exam form – often called test; the compilation of items that make up the assessment offered to the examinee What is the role of the esophagus in digestion? A. Release acid and mix food. B. Absorb nutrients from food. C. Break food down into a liquid. D. Carry food from mouth to stomach. Exam format The examination consists of 60 multiple choice items. The examination is offered via the Internet from an online provider which is accessed from the Online Examinations page of the SQFI website (www.sqfi.com) or by clicking here. The examination will require the examinee to review a series of items consisting of a stem and then choose the best answer to the question by clicking on the box containing one of four possible distractors. A yellow highlight will appear around the box of the chosen distractor. Item Key Stem Distractors Page 2 The content of the exam items are taken from the SQF Code, 7th edition Part A, Module 2 and either Module 7 (for the pre-farm gate exam) or Module 11 (for the post-farm exam). Pre-farm Gate vs. Post-farm Gate Examination Two versions of the Implementing SQF System examination are available: Pre-farm Gate and Post-farm Gate. The pre-farm gate examination addresses topics relevant to those suppliers who grow or farm product such as food sector categories 2, 3 and 5. The post-farm gate examination addresses topics relevant to those suppliers who pre-process or process product including food sector categories 7 -22, 27, 31, 33 and 34. If the examinee is unsure of their food sector category or if their needs span both pre- farm and post-farm categories, then the examinee should choose the post-farm gate examination. Either examination is acceptable to meet the criteria required of an SQF professional where the Implementing SQF Systems exam is required. Exam languages The Implementing SQF Systems examination is currently available in English and Spanish. Duration and number of attempts allowed The examinee is given three (3) attempts to successfully complete the examination within a fourteen (14) day timeframe. A time limit of sixty (60) minutes is given to complete each attempt of the examination. Passing score The successful completion of the examination results when the examinee achieves a passing score of 75% or higher. Preparing for the Examination What to study The content of the exam items is taken from the SQF Code, 7th edition Part A, Module 2 and either Module 7 (for the pre-farm gate exam) or Module 11 (for the post-farm exam). Those examinees choosing to take the Pre-farm Gate examination should consider reviewing the SQF Code, 7th edition Part A, Module 2 and Module 7. Those examinees choosing to take the Post-farm Gate examination should consider reviewing the SQF Code, 7th edition Part A, Module 2 and Module 11. Confirming Internet connection Prior to beginning the examination, the examinee is encouraged to perform a system assessment which is found by choosing the Requirements tab on the online exam vendor login page. Page 3 Taking the Examination Allowed materials Examinees are allowed to consult the SQF Code, guidance documents, training materials, notes, handouts or other materials during the examination. Examinees are not to consult with others while completing the examination. Accessing the Examination On the first attempt, the examinee should allow at least ninety (90) minutes of uninterrupted time to register, purchase, log in and complete the examination. For subsequent attempts within the 14 (fourteen) day timeframe, the examinee should allow at least seventy (70) minutes to log in and complete the examination. The examinee will log in to the examination as described on the online examination vendor website which can be access from the Online Examinations page on the SQFI website (www.sqfi.com) or by clicking here. A help document is available to assist in creating an account, purchasing and accessing the examination by following this link. Printing the Certificate of Attainment To print or reprint a certificate, the examinee will log in to the online examination vendor using their username and password. The examinee will then click on “My Transcript” and then the “Certificate” button of the selected examination.
