Activación de conocimientos Imagine that you are the winner of a trip to San Andrés Island. You have to describe spontaneously the things you will and won’t do there, this is the only requirement before traveling. What will you do in San Andrés?  What won´t you do to enjoy this trip?  Vocabulary on Holidays: write the number that matches the image, follow the example. 1 Now, let’s talk about technology! What do you know about robots? Read the next paragraph and compare the information given with what you already knew. Robots When will we have robots? We already have many kinds of robots! Industries use a variety of robots and now robots are becoming more common in the home. The Husqvarna company makes a lawn mowing robot called the Auto Mower. The robot has sensors that detect where objects are in the yard and it maneuvers around them. The robot can cut the grass while you relax on the patio with a glass of lemonade! Also, Eureka now makes a robotic vacuum cleaner. Like the robot lawn mower, the vacuum cleaner automatically detects where the furniture is and vacuums around it. Cars are becoming robots now that many cars have GPS (Global Positioning Systems) on them. A car with a GPS system can give you directions on how to go somewhere, tell you where the closest gas station is, and, some day in the future, will drive itself. You will take a nap or read while the car drives itself to your destination. We even have robotic pets now. The Sony company makes a robotic dog named Aibo that can sit, stand, and walk like a regular dog but can also communicate and take pictures! Aibo understands certain commands, like a dog does, such as "Sit down", "Stand up", "Turn right", etc. If you ask Aibo a question such as "How old are you?", its eyes will flash the number of years old it is. Aibo is also a great guard dog. He can patrol the yard and take pictures with a built in camera of anything suspicious. After reading the text do the following: Answer this question: What do you think, will robots replace the human beings in the future? Yes/No Why?  Highlight the verbs with will, won´t , using these colors. Let´s learn about the uses of Will We can use Will to talk about the future. We also use Will to make predictions, talk about decisions, to make promises, offers, requests and threats. Watch the next video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gZ8GYVYTnHk Will for Future Tense Point 1: We use will to talk about things happening in the future. ● I will see you tomorrow. ● The meeting will start soon. ● She will not be here next week. ● It will not be be easy to pass the exam Point 2: The negative form of will is will not, but we often contract this to won't in spoken English. However, do not use contractions in formal writing. ● We won't have enough money. ● She won't get home until six. ● The test won't be easy. ● I won't travel this year. Point 3: We use will to express a future action that is immediate. ● Who will be at the meeting? ● Everyone will be there. ● When will it end? ● I will end at noon, just before lunch. Point 4: We often use the contraction of will ('ll) in spoken English. However, do not use contractions in formal writing. ● I'll call you tomorrow. ● She'll be here soon. ● They'll give you a call this week. What about the uses? How can I use will? ● Arnold always says, "I'll be back" in his movies. We use the structure will + infinitive to make a prediction about the future. However, if we use this structure we are guessing or stating our opinion. We do not have any evidence in the present telling us what the future is going to be. Every day, newspapers print horoscopes telling people what will happen in their lives that day. Horoscopes make predictions about people’s jobs and careers. ● Today you will get a phone call. ● The person who telephones you will offer you the job of your dreams. ● Later this afternoon you will win a lot of money on the lottery.” Here, I have some predictions about the future: ● I predict that Colombia will go to the World Cup. ● I predict that we will have face to face classes next semester. I don’t make this decision, but I am very optimistic! Grammar Rules Examples ● I will be a teacher. ● He’ll travel around the world. ● You won’t have any problems. Remember! We can use ‘will’ or ‘’ll’ to talk about the future and make future predictions. For the negative, we can say ‘will not’ or ‘won’t’. ● I’ll live in a big house when I’m older. ● She will have lots of pets. ● Children won’t go to school in the future. ● We will not drive normal cars. Do you remember Be going to? What are the differences with Will? Check the chart below: Now, let’s check some exercises based on the uses of Will and Won´t.
