If America does see revival, nothing else matters!” Well said! America, indeed, desperately needs a heaven-sent revival and a resulting nation-transforming spiritual awakening. There is little doubt that the biblical foundational features of our American culture are quickly eroding in the wake of the rising tide of secularism. America, quite simply, needs Jesus. America needs a divine visitation from heaven not unlike the great spiritual awakenings in our nation’s past. This great need is evident across all sectors of our society. We see it in senseless school shootings. We see it in a weakening economy and stress on marriages and families. We see it in our government and the courts as decisions are made that erode our most basic freedoms. Individuals of conscience and even faith-based businesses are being required to obey man’s laws in direct violation of God’s laws. We see it in the rapidly-changing moral convictions of our people. What once was mere apathy toward Christianity (and those who are true Christ-followers) has become out right animosity. America is broken, and only a Christ-centered revival and accompanying awakening can transform our culture. Every Home for Christ (www.ehc.org) and other partnering denominations and ministries, in cooperation with the Mission America Coalition (www. missionamerica.org) and the National Day of Prayer Task Force (www. nationaldayofprayer.org), believe that prayer is central to releasing revival and awakening in America. In fact, history testifies that revival is always preceded by widespread movements of prayer and repentance. With this in mind, a broad coalition of concerned ministries, denominations, and networks are asking Christians to take this year’s Lenten season (and subsequent Lenten seasons annually) to fast and pray specifically for revival and awakening in America. (Of course, you can use this guide during any 40-day time frame throughout the year.) Imagine a vast representation of the Church in America setting aside special times for fasting and prayer during each annual Lenten season. Could not such prayer begin to turn the tide of spiritual decline in our culture? We believe that God will hear these prayers and honor such a season and that a resulting prayer movement could well release a transformational Christ-awakening across our land. With one voice for America and for the lost in our land, let’s humble ourselves with fasting and prayer. The expectation is that this guide will be used over 40 days. Over this period, this guide will lead you, as an intercessor for America, through a process of praying for every “sphere” of our society (refer to page four for more information on the “Seven Mountains of Influence”). As an intercessor, you will be praying for five or six consecutive days for each sphere. For example, from day one through day six, you will be praying for the the “Church (Religion)” Sphere. From days seven through twelve, you will be praying for the “Family and Marriages” sphere. Within each of these broad focuses, you will be given a daily prayer focus, listed at the top of each page of the guide. The red tab at the bottom of each page will remind you what sphere you are praying for on any given day.
