This is not true. Applying for and getting an international passport admittedly involves work. However it is a straightforward process. And you can do it yourself. The process is explained in detail inside this report. For example, there are numerous cases of people who have done it themselves and gotten their passport within 48 hours to 2 weeks after capturing. To see what I am saying, below are screen shots from folks on Nairaland who did theirs and have collected their passports. The person below got his at Kaduna office. This lady 5 This person below made it sound so easy and cheap. Actually, there’s some level of work involved. Nevertheless, the whole thing is worth it. See what she said NOTE: THE PRICE OF PASSPORT IN NIGERIA RANGE FROM 11,350 TO 70,000 NAIRA DEPENDING ON THE TYPE AND CATEGORY OF PASSSPORT. WE WILL DISCUSS ABOUT PRICE OF PASSPORT IN DETAIL IN THE COMING CHAPTERS OF THIS REPORT. These screenshots are gotten from Nairaland forum. To see for yourself google “Cost of international passport nairaland” However, it is understandable that for some people, due to time constraints and the urgency of their situation, they might want someone to run the process for them. If you are such a person, you will find this guide helpful. The knowledge in this guide will help you know what to look out for to ensure there is no hiccup in your passport application. And so you will avoid stories like this one below. I trust you will find this guide useful. Enjoy! 6 CHAPTER 2: Types and Categories of Nigeria International Passport There are 5 types of international passport. 4 of them are little known and are used for specific situations and persons. It doesn't concern most Nigerians. While 1 out of this 5 is the official travel document which we all know as the international passport. This is the one that concerns us. And more time will be spent explaining it. Below are the types of international passport: 1. Official passports for some government officials due to their high position and duty they perform. 2. Diplomatic passport for Nigeria diplomats. 3. Seafarers Passport for Seamen 4. Pilgrims passport for people travelling to other country for religious pilgrimage And finally, the one that concerns us, 5. Standard epassport: This is the official Nigeria international travel document all Nigerians qualify for by right. And this is the one most people know as the Nigeria international passport. 7 Now pay attention because this is where it can get a little confusing. The standard epassport also have 2 types: The first type is called the Standard passport (Take note of the difference from standard epassport) And the second type is called the Enhanced epassport. Both passport types are valid, can be used for international travels, and are still being issued out at the different passport offices around Nigeria. The enhanced epassport is a new version introduced on April 29 2019. It contains the same information as the standard passport. However, it has additional security features and it has a category with up to 10 years validity. Difference between Standard Passport and Enhanced epassport. S/N Standard passport Enhanced epassport 1. Has the regular security features. Has additional security features which makes it more difficult to fake 2. Does not require NIN for fresh application or renewal NIN is compulsory for fresh application and renewal. 3 It's has 2 categories: the first category has 32 pages. The second has 64 pages. Both have validity period of 5 years It has 3 categories. 32 pages and 64 pages with 5 years validity. And 64 pages with 10 years validity. 8 4 It costs less than the enhanced epassport It is more expensive than the standard passport 5 At the time of writing this, it is Issued by 36 out of the 41 passport offices At the time of writing this, it is issued in only 5 passport offices in 3 states (Kano, Lagos and Rivers), and the NIS head quarters in the FCT. The list of differences above is not exhaustive. However we have covered most (if not all) of the relevant ones It should be noted that both categories of passports can still be used to travel abroad. You will not be given preferential treatment or discriminated against anywhere because of the category of passport you carry. For me, the advantage of enhanced epassport over the standard passport is the option for longer validity period. Which means you don't have to make frequent trips to the passport office. And you can use it as an ID for some situations that require your NIN. 9 CHAPTER 3 The Real Cost of the Nigeria International Passport The cost of passport is something that confuses a lot of people.
