The Croajingolong National Park is a UNESCO World Biosphere Reserve. You will believe you are in paradise. BEMM RIVER 409kms east of Melbourne Bemm River has cornered the market on fishing, with some of the most pristine and untouched spots to cast a line, not only in our region but in the whole of Australia. This quaint hamlet has all the basics needed to ensure you experience wonderful scenery and fishing success. CANN RIVER 450kms east of Melbourne Cann River is at the crossroad of adventure on the Princes Highway. The town is the pit stop for all supplies and is also the turning off point for NSW on the Monaro Highway, a direct route to Jindabyne and the ACT. Many spots like the Thurra River and T amboon Inlet can also be accessed from Cann River. Point Hicks Lighthouse is where Captain Cook had his first sighting of Australia’s east coast, and is a popular destination within the incredible Croajingolong National Park. There are numerous walking 4WD, and hiking tracks throughout the unique and untamed landscape. Information is available from Parks Victoria or the regional Visitor Information Centres. Nearby, Wingan Inlet offers a safe place to launch boats in a secluded estuary. MALLACOOTA 522kms east of Melbourne The charm of this beautiful coastal village is obvious as you drive in on the 23km of road, cocooned by hinterland, coastal bush and lakes. Set within the Croajingolong National Park, at the end of the road is Mallacoota, a place at one with its own unique culture and sense of being. The town is an outpost that should not be missed. From camping to special retreat style accommodation, choices tempt the visitor to experience life the way the locals do. There is a range of special and interesting spots to stay, from five star retreats to budget alternatives. Base yourself here and encounter some of the most unspoilt and beautiful bush and beach tracks in Australia. Walking is a pleasure in this environment, with a 7km circuit track to satisfy many with a need to experience nature at close quarters. Many other special walks through surrounding National Parks will reward you with some close encounters. Spot an Eastern Water Dragon, unique to this area, giant goannas or Eastern Grey kangaroos. Gipsy Point, is another idyllic haven, 11kms from the highway heading into Mallacoota. Blessed with brilliant fishing and varied bird life, the feeling of seclusion will transport you into a realm of total calm. A stopover in this region is enhanced with the facilities on offer in Mallacoota with shops, cafes and a hotel to satisfy each visitor’s needs.
