OCTOBER 2021 LAURILLA, ANGELA | BSTM 2 Tour Guiding Application: Lesson 5 I TH INSTRUCTIONS II TH The Calbright brothers are coming to the Philippines from Los Angeles for the first time. They heard about the surfing in San Juan, La Union. They contacted the Explorer’s Travel and Tours and asked to arrange a tour going to San Juan where they will be staying for a week. The seven of them made sure that before going surfing, they want to have a tour of Manila. They plan to stay in the capital city for three days. They are booked in Manila Hotel during their stay in the city. 1. Answer the following questions: 1. What are the pre-tour arrangements? 2. What do tour operators and tour guides need to work on before the Calbright brother arrive? 3. What has to be tackled during the pre-tour? You are expected to apply what has been explained in pre-arrival activities. Analyze the given scenario and decide what preparations to do before the tour. Read the scenario carefully and apply your best judgement. III In relation to this, the tour operator must assign a proper tour guide for the tour first so that they consult each other and their suppliers to finalize the tour. A tour guide fluent in English, knows the city of Manila, and can be a local from San Juan, La Union are some basic qualities that the tour guide can possess. CONSULTATION Endorsement Briefing Research Ocular Inspection Fact check must be acquired, by doing so, check the weather to the day of the tour, is this day rainy or there is storm? Is this too hot? By checking it, we can state events that are expected. Get a map to check if there is an alternative route or available route that a vehicle can pass through. If there is, a bus or a motor coach is an option for a vehicle to be used. Call the certain destination if there is an operation on the possible day of the tour to align the time for the Calbright brothers to do the tour. If the tour operator finalized the itinerary this is the best time to give it to his tour guide. So that tour guide must have an advanced education on the expected tour. Tour operators must be given all important documents, accurate and cleart, including supplier contact information, expense liquidation sheets, and an evaluation form for travelers, all of which are designed to meet the needs and desires of tourists. Tour guides must receive guest background and basic information to analyze the tour if it is fit with the Calbright brothers. This is the time to provide tangible and written paper that a tour guide will use during and after the tour. It is the face to face education and encounterment of tour guides and tour operators. A detailed tour itinerary must provide accurate information so that tourists understand the description of each destination's natural beauty. The tour package includes all of the following components: accommodations, attractions, meals, transportation, and so on. Instructions, étiquettes, rules and regulation can be included when doing a briefing. Tour operators and tour guides must gather information and know what current events and interesting new facts they will inform about a specific destination. Communicate with locals and read reviews from other tourists who have visited Manila and San Juan. Ilo-Ilo. The tour guide must be able to develop his own critical thinking in order to know what his guests' interests are and to appear and educate them to explore different cultures. By conducting research, a tour guide can expect to generate interesting information that will surprise and delight tourists. The tour guide should be aware of and familiar with the sites, drop-off points, and/or roads mentioned in the tour itinerary. When familiarizing yourself with the itinerary, physical inspection is the best thing to do. To gain the respect and trust of tourists, the tour guide must demonstrate his or her expertise. In addition, the tour guide will lead tours to raise awareness among tourists about the importance of experiencing and learning about different cultures and traditions in order to immerse them in what they discover. PRE-TOUR PROCEDURES IV They must seek out tourist personalities who use their knowledge and skills to become explorers and learn more about them, such as their health background, interests, and hobbies. With that tour operator, an interesting itinerary should be planned. CONSULTATION Endorsement Briefing Research Ocular Inspection Finalizing the itinerary and double check is always necessary. Check the destination if it is criminal-safe and if there are facilities and amenities available for different purposes. Reliable information alone will not suffice to provide insight and information. Your information should come from a primary source as much as possible. Tourists pay more attention when they hear about real-life experiences from people who have visited the destination. You are the one who delivers experiences, so make sure they are memorable. Understand where you're going. Commanding your guests but giving them the wrong instructions can get you in a lot of trouble. Tour guides must be able to demonstrate their sense of direction so that they can provide accurate directions to important facilities, amenities, and physical locations. PRE-TOUR PROCEDURES IV Pickup and Assembly Briefing Ocular Inspection It is critical that the tour guide arrive at least 10 minutes before the scheduled time of arrival so that he can prepare. TOUR ARRANGEMENTS AND ACTIVITIES The actual tour itinerary must be planned with a complete list of details to provide the tour with a clear outline that allows the tour guides to focus on the tour itinerary that they must follow. Other tourists will join the Calbright brothers in this case. The tour guide must set a date and time to bring them all together. Do a headcount to finalize and find out if anyone has been left behind. When the tour guide gathers everyone together, an introduction is required. Provides basic information and acknowledges other staff members such as the coach captain, tour operator, or tour escort. An introduction indicates that the tour has begun and will result in an exciting tour based on the itinerary. Welcome the tourists and assure them, without making promises, that the tour will be interesting and safe. The tour guide must interpret and deliver clearer information where guests must be closely connected to their profile with a completed list of information needed during the tour when writing a commentary. The tour guide must have thorough information and details about the tour itinerary because if the itinerary is not completed, many tourists will complain. After all, commentaries are not clarified in the said tour itinerary, and it is also a tough task for a tourist guide to discuss it momentarily and entertain all the tourists under his/her state care. The tour guide must prepare a commentary on the Shrine of Our Lady of the Rosary of Manaoag. The tour guide can talk about the feast and why people celebrate it. A trivia game can get your guests excited. With a six-hour drive ahead of you, don't rush through your commentary. Make it as clever and informative as possible. When boredom strikes, the tour guide provides a variety of activities to keep the travelers entertained, fun, and excited so that they do not become bored. This includes all activities such as playing games, leading sing-alongs, providing a lot of information about a specific destination, telling jokes, giving speeches, and listening to music in order to become more effective while on tour. Maintain a positive attitude and always greet tourists with a smile. When you feel like the boat is sinking, stay calm and plan activities that will brighten the mood. Your goal is to keep them entertained, and the key is to remain calm and demonstrate your sense of humor. B. A group of 15 high school teachers from Cebu visits Baguio for a team building. In them free day, they all decide to go on a day tour of Baguio and strawberry-picking activity at Trinidad Valley. Apparently, they all got caught in traffic going to Trinidad where they are supposed to have lunch. Considering the pace of traffic due to a parade, their lunch will be delayed for an estimated two hours. Most tourists are already complaining. They are not only hungry, but they are also worried that they will not be able to do the rest of the activities which have been paid for. If you were the guide, how will you handle the problem. Assume I'm a tour guide, and the best alternative is to ask my tourists if it's okay with them if we buy or change something on the itinerary for them to eat lunch. Because everyone is complaining, I will remain calm and address the complaints. Knowing the problem is nearly half the battle. We will eat our lunch at the nearest fast-food restaurant, carinderia, or wherever it is available. The itinerary may change uploads/Ingenierie_Lourd/ application-lesson-5.pdf
