Since 1995, the McGill Institute for the Study of Canada (MISC) has hosted a major bilingual conference every year in Montreal on topics that matter to Canadians and are relevant to current public policy concerns. These public events, designed to raise provocative questions and encourage open and nonpartisan discussion, have brought together hundreds of people and attracted national and international media coverage. The MISC's annual conferences are widely recognized as rare learning experiences and attract experts on policy and public life from around the globe. Petrocultures 2014 will bring together leading figures to discuss and debate the role of oil and energy in shaping social, cultural and political life in Canada at present and in the future. This unique conference is organized in conjunction with the University of Alberta, and will be a genuinely national event involving a diverse group of speakers from across Canada. Depuis 1995, l’Institut d’études canadiennes de McGill (IÉCM) tient un colloque annuel bilingue à Montréal sur des sujets qui préoccupent les Canadiens et qui relèvent de la politique d’intérêt public actuelle. Ces rencontres publiques, dont le format a été mis en place pour provoquer des questions intéressantes ainsi que pour encourager le dialogue ouvert et non partisan, ont rassemblé des centaines de personnes et ont bénéficié d’une couverture médiatique nationale et internationale. Les colloques annuels de l’IÉCM sont reconnus de part et d’autre comme de rares expériences d’apprentissage et ont réussi à attirer des experts d’un peu partout dans le monde pour discuter de politique et de vie publique. Pétrocultures 2014 rassemblera des personnalités importantes afin de discuter du rôle du pétrole et de l'énergie dans la reconfiguration actuelle et future de la vie sociale, culturelle et politique au Canada. Cette conférence unique est organisée en collaboration avec l'Université de l'Alberta et sera un événement véritablement national comportant des représentants de toutes les régions du Canada.
