Department of Education Region IX, Zamboanga Peninsula Division of Zamboanga City Baliwasan District CAPISAN NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL Zamboanga City Session Guide on Strategies in Developing Critical Thinking and Higher Order Thinking Skills Session Title Strategies in Developing Critical Thinking and Higher Order Thinking Skills Duration: 1 day (8:00 – 4:00) Target Participants and Profile: Untrained Teachers (Grade 7-12) OBJECTIVES: Terminal: Enabling: To develop strategies on higher order and critical thinking skills among teachers. At the end of the 1 day session, the tecahers are expected to: a. explore 21st Century Thinking Skills; b. share common understandings on the concept of higher order thinking skills; c. identify the different components of critical thinking; d. instill critical and higher order thinking skills through different games and activities; and e. apply appropriate strategies to reinforce critical and higher order thinking skills. Output: Lesson Plan and demonstration of the different strategies that will enforce the development of critical and higher order thinking skills. Critical Thinking Skills and its Components  Applying Reasons  Open-mindedness  Analysis  Logic Analysis  Video Presentation (A video presentation on critical and higher order thinking skills will be shown.)  Lecture (Discussion on the different concepts of higher order thinking skills and its connection to critical thinking as one of its aspects.)  Group Discussions (Participants will complete the different activities on the 4 components of Critical Thinking Skills) Laptop LCD Projector Speaker Handouts 2 hours d.
