Please, answers the questions: What is a tourist guide? Tour Manager? Talk on the Code of Ethics of a Tour Guide. DEFINITIONS What is a tourist guide? Tourist guide: A person who guides visitors in the language of their choice and interprets the cultural and natural heritage of an area, which person normally possesses an area-specific qualifications usually issued and/or recognized by the appropriate authority It is distinct from a tour manager defined by CEN as follows: Tour manager a person who manages an itinerary on behalf of the tour operator ensuring the programme is carried out as described in the tour operator’s literature and sold to the traveler/consumer and who gives local practical information. Note: tour manager may or may not be a tour guide as well. They are not trained or licensed to work in the specific areas unless they have the proper requirements or legal right depending on the region. CODE OF ETHICS TOURIST GUIDES shall follow the code of ethics in order to: 1. Promote their country and give their country credit by presenting it decently. 2. Protect natural and cultural sites, respect private property, and wildlife while showing them to the visitor(s). 3. Provide the visitor(s) with required service observing the rules and regulations practiced in their country and at all sites. 4. Provide visitor(s) with the best service possible at hand according to their requirements. 5. Aid the visitor(s) purchase souvenirs at a decent store and does not encourage the patronage of the stores nor abuse their trust. 6. Cooperate with other groups and maintains ethical and professional manner at all times so that all the visitors feel comfortable and take pleasure of their visit. Plus, they inform the Travel agency of any minor or major changes required by the visitor(s). 7. Create a true image of their country by giving their visitor(s) sound information, assertively (strongly) presenting their culture and its varieties, helping the visitor(s) interpret the surroundings, feeding them with local cuisine and the like. Moreover, they keep track of the latest news on the exhibits, openings and the like to offer. 8. Care about the visitor(s) time. As a result, they know the routes, help the drivers, review the itinerary and day plans and anticipate unexpected obstacles. 9. Be sensitive to the interests and values of the visitor(s). They do not share personal views on controversial issues such as politics or religion. ●●● Code of ethics for Regional Level Tourist Guides  The Tourist Guide shall always be aware of projecting a good and positive image of the country.  The Tourist Guide shall consider himself / herself a friend of the tourists, be courteous and helpful and never betray the trust placed in them by the tourists and carry out his ethical and moral responsibilities with dignity.  The Tourist Guide would, therefore, bear in mind that “word of mouth” publicity and comments have a tremendous impact on the creation of an image for the country. This is several times more valuable than the most expensive advertisement that can be put out.  The Tourist Guide would always be courteous, efficient, tactful, kind, understanding and project the warm and hospitable nature.  The Tourist Guide would ensure to give correct and all possible information of the latest developments in the country and keep himself / herself up to date. He / she would understand and convey the positive aspects of his culture and tradition, and be well versed with matters relating to local customs, habits and traditions to ensure that both the tourists and the local people respect each other.  The Tourist Guide would always be punctual, well groomed, presentably dressed, well mannered, sober and cultured. His / her dedication and conduct should ensure that the image of the profession or that of the country is never tarnished.(damaged)  The Tourist Guide shall at all times be reliable with the entrusted duties and be of exemplary conduct, not only, in dealing with tourists but, with others such as the Government Officers and members of the public.  The Tourist Guide shall refrain from unethical or discriminatory conduct and deal with propriety and impeccable honesty.
