Acme Style Guide Proposal Report - 2020 Abstract Mr. Coyote, every business should have an effective style guide to run operations very smoothly and efficiently. Also, equally important is the writing habits which tie into the style guide. As secretary to esquire, Acme Industries is recommended to have a smooth flow of information. As a newspaper company, the flow of information important to the writing and delivery of the information. That being said, a business is only as effective as the style guide that it has in place to convey the information. This proposal will discuss:  Importance of style guide  Why it is needed?  Consequences of no style guide in business  Recommendations for adoption of style guide By using research from other businesses, we can portray how style guides are effective and also show the consequences that come from a business with no style guide. This office type of writing one must acquire in accordance with the business. We plan on exploringexplored how employees mistakenly use professionalism in their office and how we can fix the problem. The proposal below displays this by the implementation of a style guide within APA to maintain a current status of workplace writing that strives for efficiency and professionalism. Proposal  Appropriate professional writing in the workplace utilizes APA. Style to be used is APA (American Psychological Association). Given these challenge times, meeting with services like Zoom can cause difficulties with communication.  APA style format is most common in the workplace and is what we know how to use as university students.  Interpret the misunderstandings of writing here at Acme Industries and work to better the flow of information by implementing a style guide. By the points listed above, my team and I will explain through research that having a successful style guide in Acme Industries is important for the communication within the business. Also, my team will discuss how other business have been hindered due to the communication within. iv Acme Style Guide Proposal Report - 2020 Executive Summary Upon reviewing the Acme Industries workplace writing it has become evident that the company has yet to adopt a particular style guide. Upon researching workplace necessities style guides was brought to our attention. Every business should have an effective style guide to run operations very smoothly and efficiently. Also, equally important is the writing habits which tie into the style guide. Acme Industries is recommended to have a smooth flow of information. By researching different style guides and coming to the conclusion due to your decision of the American Psychological Association (APA), it is recommended to pass the information to all that work at Acme Industries. For the test of bad writing and checking the effectiveness of the tone within our writing, an offer is given below. Also, discussed below is the option of discussing the writing habits already in place and see if there is room for improvement. 1 Acme Style Guide Proposal Report - 2020 Introduction Acme industries is a company that manufactures rejuvenating face mask and various beauty products since May 15, 1990. The company originated from El Paso Texas by co-founder Mr. Wiley E. Coyote the company then expanded worldwide. The corporation started with a net worth of $ 800,000 per year increasing to $1.8 million per year. In 2018 the state of California issued a lawsuit against Acme Industries for plagiarism. The state of California claims that a rejuvenating face mask contained a copied labeled from another product causing damage to many clients. Based on the results of current research this white paper offers recommendations to avoid plagiarism lawsuits. The following recommendations are for all employees to receive mandatory training every six month through WIX website to get certified. Another endorsement is to hire a professional educator to review papers instructions and labels for products and alert plagiarism. Acme Industries Falls into Plagiarism Acme Industries has encountered various snags when formatting a formal paper due to the absence skills employees demonstrate. Employees are lacking formatting a professional paper causing plagiarism. Workers are not using the proper citation format that corresponds to the formal style and has caused the company to be sued of plagiarism. Illiterate staff used the incorrect format copying instructions and labels by pasting them onto the rejuvenating mask product conducting plagiarism and resulting in a lawsuit. According to Karabag and Brggren (2012), “several forms of academic dishonesty such us fabrication, falsification, plagiarism, duplication, least publishable units, and neglecting support” (pg.173). Falsifying a label and instruction to a product is plagiarism causing harm to both parties the company and the consumers. This issue brought the industry many challenges and has caused the company millions of dollars. Inconsistency in formatting a suitable paper is a significant issue that the industry is facing because of the lack of standard rules. According to Gardner (2018), “style guides can even save money by enabling document consistency, promoting and ethos professionalism in communication, serving as an effective training tool for new hires, and setting policy for document creation within an organization” (pg.7). Not maintaining an ordinary set of rules has affected the industry’s growth because of the prerequisites that are being not being addressed. The use of correct citing in a professional paper style guide can help the Acme industry to prevent losing any more money and maintain a standard for any employee and new staff members to use when writing a professional document. Clients are being affected by these products due to the improper instructions and not valid labels that correspond to the product. In this case the customers who purchased the rejuvenating mask misused the product by leaving the mask overnight causing skin cancer due to the high insensitive of the UV light inside of the mask. Buyers read the copied and paste label/instructions that stated to place the mask overnight initially recommended for another product. Now clients who have skin cancer expose the company’s tarnishing their reputation. 2 Acme Style Guide Proposal Report - 2020 Analysis With issues such as plagiarism within the workplace there are many ways in which a company is affected. To begin a loss of trust is sure to surface once a company or industries integrity is at risk. We consider this when we place ourselves in the mindset of consumers. When shopping for almost anything whether it be appliances, produce, or home goods people tend to opt for products from trustworthy brands. If consumers have established a familiarity with a brand, they will easily be able to identify when another brand is plagiarizing off of another no matter how big or small it is. This creates opportunity for a company to suffer loss among clientele as well. As it stands it can be difficult to build clientele for a business even if a new business has recommendations by established companies. Once a foundation of trust is broken due to an unethical act such as plagiarism. Among this lie legal repercussions companies must face when displaying this act of unprofessionalism. While plagiarism is may seem small it is held in high regard in the eyes of the law. Legally it is defined as stealing even though it is not physically tangible by anything more than evidence. The act of theft can leave a company’s reputation tarnished forever beyond repair. Adler Kastner et al. (2008) states in Framing Plagiarism, “Reclaiming education entails teaching students to recognize and adapt to wide variations in the values that determine how a text is created, used, and represented in specific social, academic, and occupational text…” Therefore, Acme Industries has taken the imitate to construct a concise list of guidance to help avoid acts of plagiarism as listed below. Adler Kastner et al. (2008) also alludes one of the many types of system reform is the use of automated plagiarism checking programs. This decreases the chances of plagiarism and typos by reviewing work prior to submit ion. As a result, Acme Industries will be providing training classes and two forms of digital media tools to all employees.
