Geofence Guide Functionality Overview Geofencing allows authors to set the region (or regions) in which their content can appear. Please continue reading to learn how to set "targeted locations" for a post. Once enabled, please follow these instructions: # Description Visual 1 Go through the normal creation process. Once you reach the "post page", you will see the ability to select "Targeted Locations". Select "Targeted Locations". Choose to "Add targeted locations". This screen will show you which locations you have selected (if blank, no locations have been selected). 2 Select the region(s) in which you'd like the video to be accessible. Once all regions are selected, please Save. As a best practice, select the most important region first. This region will be set as the "home base" region and will be given priority in recommendation. 3 Selected regions will appear in a list on the page when saved. To add regions, select "Add targeted locations". To remove regions, select the trash can and confirm removal. Once complete, go back to the posting page. Please confirm that the right number of regions appear to the right of the Targeted locations prompt before posting. When a location is selected for geofencing, the privacy setting will be set to "Public" and duet permissions will be toggled "Off". Post when you are ready. 4 After the video is posted, the user will be able to see how it's geofencing functionality is set by 1) looking at the badge on the video or 2) checking the privacy settings and selecting "Targeted locations". You will not be able to toggle the locations, duet permission or privacy of the video after posting. If there is an issue, please delete the video. 5 To viewers in-region, the video will appear as a normal video (viewers will not be aware of any regional limitation). To viewers out-of-region, the video will be inaccessible. Best Practices Content on TikTok will perform best when it's open to all users. Our personalized recommendation algorithm excels at finding the best consumers for every user's content; so where possible, we would recommend not using the geofencing functionality (we recommend only turning on geofencing where absolutely necessary due to licensing concerns). 1. Content that is geofenced will always have duet permissions automatically turned off. Please do NOT turn duet back on as derivative work will not be geofenced. 2. Geofencing will apply to all content formats within the video. 3. When selecting targeted locations, the user should select the most important region first. 4. uploads/Geographie/ geofence-guide 1 .pdf
