With the objective of developing SLIIT in to a multi disciplinary institute, we commenced a Business Management degree programme in 2007 and launched an Electronic Engineering degree programme in 2009. SLIIT is a center of excellence committed to advance and disseminate knowledge, foster and promote innovation and produce world class professionals. In 2008 the institute was admitted as a member of the association of Commonwealth Universities, U.K. SLIIT conducts programmes of studies leading to BSc Special Honors degrees, BSc degrees, MSc degrees and Postgraduate Diploma in Information Technology , Information Management, Business Administration, Business Management and Electronic Engineering. The Bachelor's degree programmes at SLIIT offer many academic pathways. Students while conducting their studies towards the degree can earn other qualifications such as Diplomas and Advanced Diplomas which are designed to meet industry requirements. While the majority of our students complete their degrees at SLIIT, they also have the option of transferring to any of the SLIIT overseas partner universities after completing two or two and a half years' of studies at SLIIT to graduate from the partner university. For this purpose SLIIT has partnered with universities such as Curtin University, Monash University, RMIT University, Swinburne University, all of Australia, Sheffield Hallam University, UK, Kwantlen Polytechnic University , Canada, Southeast Missouri State Universtiy, USA and University of Cincinnati, USA. We place great emphasis on the quality of our education and our graduates. In addition to recruiting and retaining highly qualified and experienced academic staff, we continuously enhance our infrastructure and improve the curricula to ensure the high standards of our academic programmes. Further, we offer a number of soft skills programmes to improve communications skills in order that our graduates have a higher level of employability . Research skills in undergraduates help them to be competitive and survive in academia as well as in industry. Hands on experience in research and research methodology have been successfully integrated to the undergraduate and postgraduate curricula to inculcate research skills in students. Success with this integration has been evidenced on many occasions with SLIIT winning numerous accolades like Microsoft Imagine cup, the Asia pacific ICT alliance award, and the national best quality software award many times in the recent past. In addition, both undergraduate and postgraduate students have published and presented research papers in many local and foreign research forums.
