Barbour’s book talks about the affects of alcohol and how alcohol affected the American society, and changed the way we view alcohol and also the limitations on alcohol. This book helped me understand the background information about alcohol and how it has become such a big part in American culture and how limitations needed to be implemented in order to preserve public safety. Barron’s book gave a more in-depth overview of drunk driving, and its history and how it has increased over the years leading to about 25,000-800,000 annual alcohol related deaths and car crashes. This article talked about how changes regarding drunk driving are now being made, but some people are getting in the way of some of these new bills that are trying to be passed. Shaw’s article explains how our society in the past has been known for giving unequal consequences for unequal crimes. Shaw brings up an old case referring to when a man was charged with car theft has to spend two years in jail and how a drunk driver who killed their son had to pay a $200 fee. This article really made me think to how corrupt our justice system really is and how drunk driving is a very serious crime and their needs to be harsher consequences. !
